VtM: Helena Wells Character Profile

This post is going to be a work in progress. It is basically a character mock-up for Helena in the Vampire The Masquerade PSL I am writing her in with [personal profile] somepartsbroken.

Background: Helena was born on September 21, 1821 in London, England to an affluent family. She was the youngest of four children, having two older brothers and one older sister. She received an education as befitted a woman of the time, but Helena's intellect was that of a genius and she craved knowledge. With her father's approval, at least when he knew of it, she would teach herself about the sciences and advanced mathematics. Hers was a mind that needed a constant challenge, so she soaked up as much knowledge as she possibly could.

Though when she came into her teenage years, she began to become a headache for her family. Helena was a headstrong woman, and she had sex out-of-wedlock, something she did keep hidden from her parents. At least until she became pregnant after one of her dalliances. When her parents found out, they were enraged, and when the child's father was revealed to be a married man, Helena was disowned and promptly thrown out on the street. She had just turned seventeen and found herself with nothing and a child on the way. Her father had given her a starting sum of money to live on, and she ensured to stretch that out as much as she could, so she found herself lodging on the outskirts of the Whitechapel. She managed to find some work that gave her an income. It was enough of an income to pay the rent for her apartment. The money her father had given her she was saving for paying for a good midwife and doctor to be there when her child was born. And she was also going to use the rest of the money to buy herself passage to America when her child was old enough to travel.

Helena gave birth to a daughter, Christina, after a long and somewhat difficult labor. From the moment Christina was born, she was inseparable from Helena, and Helena loved her daughter utterly and completely. As time passed, she managed to save up enough money to buy passage to America and have enough money to find some place to live. Christina was a year old when Helena made the trip across the ocean, leaving England behind her. In America, she traveled a bit before finding a city to settle down in. She found an apartment not far from a bookstore, and upon her first visit and befriending the owner, she had a job. Not long after, the owner sold her the shop as he was aging and unable to do much around the shop due to ill health. It was a successful business, and Helena found it easy to maintain. She eventually had enough money to purchase a house not that far from the shop, and she settled into a relatively easy life with her daughter. There were those who turned their noses up at her for being an unmarried mother, but Helena didn't care. She had her friends, and she had her daughter, which was what mattered to her.

One day, she met a man by the name of Alexander Smith. It didn't take long for her to become taken by him. He was handsome, she enjoyed his sense of humor and intelligence, and he seemed to rather like Christina. In fact, he didn't seem to care that she was an unmarried mother, and she'd begun to think perhaps she could have something with him. At least until the unthinkable happened.

One night, Christina had woken her up, crying that there was a monster outside. Helena checked both the house and the yard, but she didn't see anything. Returning indoors, Helena did her best to calm Christina down. Eventually, her daughter fell back asleep and Helena tucked her in, then went back to sleep herself. When she woke up, she was greeted by a nightmare. She went to check on Christina and instead of finding her daughter peacefully sleeping, the child had been slaughtered. Helena was beside herself with grief, and sent for the police immediately. However, they chalked it up to a wild animal after finding some white hair. Distraught, Helena tried to contact Alexander, but he was nowhere to be found. Her heart broke again as she couldn't find him. Four days after her daughter's death, after Christina had been buried, Helena set out to find Alexander, but she was in no way prepared for the revelations that would come by finding him.

I've drawn up a character sheet for her as well. Because pretty certain she will end up a vampire at some point, and a Malkavian at that. I have unspent points still, and the sheet is still largely up in the air in regards to her Merits and Flaws, but I do at least have a general idea of what she'd be like as a Malkavian. She gets Night Terrors (or in this case I suppose it'd be Day Terrors), though I also rather enjoy the Nightmare Disorder. Though I think her main Dementation is either going to be one of the types of Schizophrenia, and when she's especially upset it presents as Catatonic Schizophrenia, or she's going to have some other type of hallucinatory disorder. Because why not? But yes, her character sheet as it stands at this precise moment in time (it will be edited as time progresses and I figure more things out):

I still have some Freebie points to spend, and depending on how her Flaws pan out, there will also be some more points to spend there. Thus work in progress. However, what may not change for her:

Nature: Judge
Demeanor: Survivor (though I'm also toying with giving her Caretaker, Fanatic or Innovator depending on how the PSL pans out)
Road: Humanity

She has an emphasis on her Mental Abilities and, going against the Clan inclination, puts emphasis on her Knowledge Abilities instead of her Talents. But Helena is more of an intellectual in that respect. Also given her Road, she puts an emphasis on her self-control.

And that is how she stands currently. A perfectly dark and tortured soul ready to walk a longer dark and tortured path.
