VtM: A Fatal Desire
Things had been going well. Helena had thought she'd finally found someone she could potentially be with. He hadn't minded the fact she'd had a child out of wedlock. That was rare for men in these times. However, things had gone horribly wrong a few nights prior. Helena had found her beloved daughter, Christina, had been murdered. It had effectively killed her, and she'd spent the past few days planning a funeral she never thought she would have to plan. On top of that, she'd tried to contact Dorian, to reach out to him, but she hadn't been able to find him.
As she stood at her daughter's grave, her heart was in shreds. She'd spent a lot of time the past few days crying that she couldn't cry anymore now. As she watched the dirt fill in the grave, Helena was determined to find out who had killed her daughter, and she was going to find Dorian one way or the other.
That determination led her into traveling through the darker, seedier parts of the city. She would go to whatever lengths to find vengeance for her daughter. The grief she was bearing was too great, and she instead focused on doing what she felt needed to be done, which was looking for Dorian as well as learning who killed her daughter. Of course, a woman should not be alone in that part of the city at night, but she didn't care. She was armed, she wasn't defenseless by any means.

She was walking out of a seedy little bar dressed in a light pink ball gown of all things. The cut throats all moved the fuck out of her way like they knew better. "I tired of your boring habits Alexander!" She called back clearly pissed off stomping off down the streets. She and the other to were almost always around Dorian and with those the others had targeted.
Inside the bar, Dorian leaned forward popping a button under the cravat "Alright, next hand?" he asked tossing down a few coins. Clealry looking releived she was gone. he had no idea Helena was near, he never expected to see her again. Better to cut her off and not risk the psycho who kept him on a short leash find out he had taken a fancy to her. He had broke his blood bond months before but was still biding his time. He had Phoebe convinced he loved her so she had not bonded him again.

She came to another seedy bar and walked inside. It didn't take long for her to spot Dorian sitting at the table gambling. A mix of emotions surged within her, though she chose to focus on the anger instead of the grief and pain she was in. A couple other men whistled at her, but she ignored them, heading straight for Dorian. When she got to him, she grabbed his shoulder and turned him enough so he looked at her and she punched him.
"Where have you been?! I have been looking everywhere for you the past few days." This was a complete change from the woman he had come to know. And when he would look her in the eye, he would know something was wrong because there was a deadness to her gaze that had never been there before. There was emotion churning within her dark eyes that she was keeping beneath the surface. But there was definitely something off about her. She was also dressed in a solid black dress, a color she never wore, at least not with a secondary color mixed in as well.

He never expected her to come find him in the bars. No one had told him a woman was seeking him either The moment she turned him and hit him his chair went backwards the cards in the air and a mix of yells and cheers broke out as he landed on his back looking up at her. That was when he took her fully in. Even with the haze of the whiskey he could tell something was very wrong.
"Ms Wells?" he spoke like she had not just demanded answers of him. "Let us go outside and speak." he was quick to push himself to his feet and sweep up his winning. Because money matters. "why are you here? And why are you all in black?"
no subject
She didn't even look at anyone else in the bar, she simply turned around and marched herself outside, expecting Dorian to follow her. Once outside, she turned and glared up at him.
"I have been trying to contact you for the past few days. Maybe if you had not left without warning, you would know why I am in black." There was a coldness and sharpness to her voice that had never been there before. But it was also carefully veiling the grief and pain. "I buried my daughter today, that's why I am all in black. Someone murdered her a few days ago. That is why I was trying to find you because I needed you!" Unshed tears lined her eyes, but she refused to let them fall. "But perhaps I was a fool to think you cared for me and Christina." She was lashing out, but she was emotionally distressed and it was her pain talking more than anything.

"I was called back to handle some debts Ms. Wells, I did tell you of my habits..." he started before his eyes widened, if he could drop a shade he certainly did. "Christina?" And yet all he could see was Phoebe's shining face and the way she had been singing ... just night ago. "When? Who?" Please let him be wrong... "I had no idea..." It was a game, you were never suppose to see me again "...I should have been there for you."

Had she known Dorian had only been playing a game with her, she would not have come searching for him in the capacity of needing someone to take comfort in. She would have instead come to give him one hell of a piece of her mind. "Four nights ago. The police seem complacent enough to say a wild animal killed her. No wild animal killed my daughter as nothing else in my home was touched as though a wild animal had rampaged through it. And if I knew who killed her I promise you they would not be drawing breath right now." She was every bit serious about that. "When I find who killed my daughter, I will take their life." And that was all she had to live for now. Vengeance was her driving force.
Suddenly, she sobered a bit from her anger. It was more a side-effect of the varying emotions she felt currently than anything else. Though being there with Dorian again made her realize how silly she must have been to track him down like this. "I do apologize for taking you away from your card game. I had no idea who else to turn to and I do not wish to return home." How could she ever go back there and call it a home without Christina there to greet her?
no subject
"Ms. Wells, I understand your grief, and please do not say no I do not." He started taking a breath. "I never told you this before because I do not like the way people look at me when they find out. But I was married once a few years ago, with a son and daughter. They were all three killed while I was on business so. I do know this pain. And the person who killed my loved ones escaped without punishment, but mayhaps I can help to seek vengeance for poor Christina with you?" It had been a game but this was too much, he would make Phoebe pay this time. He knew damned well it was her.
"Forget the card game, your child has been taken from you. And I can understand not wanting to return home. I do not have much in money at the moment." Phoebe kept him broke to keep him on a short leash. "But I could rent you a room in the hotel I am staying at. It would be away from home, and I can ask around to see if anyone knows about anything. I know many in the lower class."

When Dorian said he understood her pain, Helena looked up at him, ready to rebuke him until he explained himself. He'd had a family that had been murdered as well. That only added to her anger that his family's murderer was still out there. "I would love nothing more than to seek out vengeance. I only wish that you would be able to find the same closure and vengeance for your own family." She didn't make an offer of saying she was sorry for his loss because that was a meaningless sentiment. When people had said it to her in the past few days, it had only served to anger her. Most people tended to also sound patronizing when saying such things. So instead, she opted for letting him help her seek vengeance for Christina.
"Thank you, I do appreciate your generosity. I have some money myself, but there is not much of it though I may sell the bookshop." The bookshop was her livelihood. It didn't bring her overly much money, but it had been enough to support herself and Christina and allow them to splurge now and again. It was more or less a miracle she wasn't breaking down in front of Dorian currently, but she was also out in public and doing her best to hold onto the anger that burned within her. She knew if she let the grief take hold, she would never leave her bed again.

"I lived in upstate New York and it was a few years ago, which is to say there is no vengance to give the trail is long cold. Which is how I ended out this far. I have traveled every bar and salon from there to here looking for any insight, and none ever comes." Oh he fucking knew and she would fucking pay. He was glad she had not said sorry.
"Do not sell your shop, you need a means to survive Ms. Wells, and gambling would suit you ill." he spoke offering her his arm then. "Come, let us get you settled in for a night, you look run ragged and we can speak while you rest and you can tell me what you know." He'd fucking kill her the moment he got her alone.... not Helena but Phoebe.

"You should never stop looking for those responsible. You and your family deserve vengeance by any means necessary. As does Christina." Though if she were thinking clearly, she'd know this wasn't what Christina would want for her, but Helena couldn't think otherwise currently.
Helena shrugged a shoulder, taking his offered. "I can always open another one elsewhere if I so wish. Though I do not see the point in surviving." Which wouldn't be surprising. She was more than certain Dorian understood the sentiment, given the loss of his own family. "I will tell you all I know. Hopefully something comes of it." She would refuse to cry until she was alone. The pain was coming back to the forefront, and her gaze dropped to the street beneath her feet as they walked. Helena was now a starkly different woman from the one Dorian had come to know.

"I did not say I stopped, just that I know it is a useless plight why else would I live like this?" he spoke. Reaching the door he opened it, pushing the door open. The inside was simple, a bed, table and an old trunk covered in travel stickers from being shipped around. It had four locks on it. Everything else seemed to have come with the room. A room barely lived in. The windows were covered up completely.
"Come in." He spoke as he moved across the room to light up the lamps. her pain called to him..and made him want to destory his maker more then every but he wanted her safe. He knew by now someone has told Phoebe where he walked off too and that he had a woman in his company.
no subject
"I do hope that you will be able to find those responsible sooner or later." He certainly deserved the closure, and so did she. When he invited her in, she walked into the room, looking it over. It was obviously not really lived in. The trunk caught her attention, mostly for the four locks and the stickers on it, however she didn't pay it much further attention. She had no need to given it was obviously his, and it wasn't her business.
Helena was completely unaware of the potential danger she was in just by being there with Dorian. Not that she really would care about that fact. She went over to a chair, pulled it away from the table and sat on it. Setting her hands in her lap, she locked her gaze on her hands, not really certain where to start in telling him what happened. Nor did she think she was even ready to tell him.
no subject
He stood then hands behind his back, watching her. "Mayhaps this is not the time but i owe you an apology. I lead you to believe I had money. while yes, my uncle is very well off and by proxy as am I. when he is not around I am broke as any beggar. Which is why this room is in this state. He left days ago, we were to move and I feared you would hate me if I told you I was leaving, which is why i stopped contact." It was only half true.
"Now, please tell me what you know. Anyone strange that may have been around, if Christina had any nightmares, I know it strange, but my son had cried of a monster outside of his window the night they were killed and I thought it a childs imagination and ignored it."
no subject
Looking up at him, she listened to his apology. At the mention that he was moving, she felt her heart sink and break again, if that was even possible. "You were not going to come back, were you?" It clicked suddenly in her head. It figured as much. Just when she'd thought she'd found someone, he was going to simply leave and not tell her, letting her think whatever she'd wanted of him. "I would have appreciated it if you had told me instead of simply leaving without a word." There was a spark of anger and hurt, however brief, but it was there. Perhaps she'd been stupid to come seek him now if he was only going to leave anyway. And she must've been even more of a fool to think he had cared for her.
She drew in a deep breath. "Christina had said there was a monster outside, though when I looked, I did not see anyone. I calmed her and put her back to sleep. Perhaps if I'd taken it more seriously or looked harder she would still be alive." Or they'd both be dead, not that she overly cared which outcome she'd gotten at this precise moment.

Dorian shook his had some. "I had planned on it but I never found the words. I knew it would hurt you. I was not certain you would be okay with building a future with a man who spends his nights gambling and drinking with men who could be murderers." He admitted. "I did not want to bring that kind of trouble into your life." He spoke moving over and laid a hand on her shoulder. "I will not go anywhere as long as you wish it though." Though he would sneak out later once he got her to go to sleep.
"Which is nearly exactly what happened. My son sobbed until I promised to walk around and look. I think the inhuman creature got inside while I was out walking the property line. i did not check the house when I returned, simply went to bed. They said an animal did they find any hair?" He was hoping if their was it was white.
no subject
"I did much the same. I just keep thinking I should've woken up or stayed awake or something." It was a grieving mother's desperation talking. Though at the question of the hair, she thought for some moments, trying to sift through the past few days. "I think they did. I believe they said it was white." They had said it probably belonged to a wolf, but Helena wasn't convinced it was merely a wolf. She would have woken up had a wolf invaded her home.

"We need gun cotton and something some oil." he spoke straightening his back as soon as she said white hair pacing. He shouldn't have spoke aloud but the bitch broke her promise and did it again. Which means she was coming to bond him again before the end of teh night if whispers got to her that he was with Helena right now. "And a sword." He looked over to his trunk moving past teh table pulling the keys from his pocket to kneel starting to undo the locks. For now the words of regret are ignored as his thoughts of revenge burned.

However, her mind snapped to attention as he spoke of things they needed. It was then that she finally started putting the pieces together. She would've caught on much sooner, but she was distracted currently for good reason. "The one who killed your family is the same one who killed Christina, is it not?" The questions he'd asked, the details of what had happened to their children were too similar to simply be a coincidence. She stood up as he went to unlock the trunk. "I have a gun," she said, opening her handbag and pulled out a handgun. "I needed some insurance for this part of the city." It needed to be said that she'd at least thought ahead enough to come armed.

It was from his times helping Matt with Blood hunts to make up for shit Phoebe does.
"A gun will not help here. I said gun cotton, Nitrocellulose. It is rather new but it makes one hell of a blast."
no subject
Helena shook her head, confused about the clippings more than anything. She wasn't putting things together quite the way she normally would. Otherwise she might have noted the similarities between when Dorian had told her and what the clippings said about the family that had been killed.
"A blast? Is there more than one person we are dealing with?" Really, she wasn't quite understanding the need for an explosion to be made. Not that she was against using it, she was all for making the responsible party, or parties, pay dearly for what had been taken from the both of them. "Though as long as it hurts, I see no problem in using it." She still held the clippings in her hand, and something was niggling at the back of her mind, trying to get her attention. But at that moment, she was more focused on going into battle, as it seemed they were about to do.
no subject
"It is not something I can fully explain, you would think me mad and I have no time. If the bastard is in the city then tonight this ends." he finally looked back then The flint shoved in his pockets and he yanked off his boots to put on the others and the goggles slipped in a pocket as well. "Tell me where to find a chemist. And you use that pistol to guard the door." he didn't want her coming. He had clearly ignored her words mostly because he didn't want to say anything else to make it clear he knew more then he was saying. But he refused to look at her while she had the papers.
no subject
When he told her to use her gun to protect the door, she knew she wasn't going with him. She didn't exactly like that arrangement as she wanted to be there to watch the murderer die. "Why can I not come with to watch them die?" Perhaps he was trying to protect her, perhaps there was something about the entire situation she wasn't supposed to know. Whatever the reason, she still wanted to be part of it, to witness it and know the murderer wouldn't take anyone else's family away from them. Still, she told him where a good chemist was, one that would no doubt have what he was looking for. She of course knew all the chemists in the area, and some were decidedly better stocked than others.
Though she realized he wasn't looking at her, and she wasn't completely certain why. Perhaps it was because of what he was going to do, and finally seek his vengeance. "For our sake, I wish this to end tonight." And if it did, then what else did she have to live for? Life was breaking her, and a passing thought of taking her own life crossed her mind. There was a certain appeal to it.
She fingered the clippings for some moments before she handed them to him, still not putting the pieces together because she wasn't in her right mind. "These fell out when you were gathering things," she said, getting another glimpse inside his trunk. The contents were curious, but she wasn't going to intrude on them. At least not while he was there.

"I am going for the guncotton first and to ask about see if anyone has seen the beast. I will come back." he had to, she was the bait. He knew Phoebe would come. Helena may die in the crossfire, but Phoebe was going down too. No reason to break the Masquerade if he pretty much expects her dead and beside her daughter by nights end. It was a shame too. He rather fancied her.
"It will end tonight, I will be back within the house. Stay here, and guard the door. I will knock three times when I return." he spoke heading out.
no subject
Helena nodded at his words. She wasn't entirely certain if he would come back given he seemed to have no intention of coming back before when he'd left with no word. But she would stay anyway. After all, where else would she go? And in her current state, she'd most likely end up getting cornered in a dark alley, raped and killed by several ruffians, if she was lucky.
"Be careful," she said to him before he left. She was falling for him, and she didn't want anything untoward happening to him. Especially with a murderer out there. Once he was gone, she locked the door behind him, keeping her pistol handy. She glanced over at his trunk, curiosity getting the best of her. Besides, sitting there doing nothing but wait wasn't appealing to her. She waited a minute or two to ensure he was gone, then she went over and knelt down in front of the trunk, setting the pistol on the floor beside her. Lifting the lid, she started going through things. She'd largely been intrigued by the amount of weapons he had, so clearly he had been preparing for his vengeance for a while.
Though sifting far enough, she found more clippings from 1788 to pair with the ones that had fallen out on the floor earlier. Picking the new ones up, she read through them and found a picture of a man named Dorian Carver who looked precisely like Alexander did. Helena's eyes widened and she looked back at the clipping about the Carver family's murder, and she paired it together with what he'd told her a few minutes before about his family having died. Dorian and Alexander couldn't possibly be the same man! Decades had passed, yet Alexander seemed to be the same age as depicted in the drawing.
Suddenly feeling like she'd uncovered something she shouldn't have, Helena put things back in the trunk and closed the lid. She picked up the pistol and returned to sitting in the chair, her gaze falling down to the pistol. Even in her confusion and emotional turmoil, she knew that Dorian and Alexander were the same man. He had lied to her about who he was. And if he had lied about that, what else had he lied to her about? Did he even really care for her? The thoughts swirled around in her head and emotion swelled within her, but she refused to let it out. Not here and certainly not now.

Three knocks came to the door. he had the goggles over his eyes as he waited before slipping the key in and locking the door. Phoebe was near he could smell her. "My apologies for the wait." He spoke leaning the sword against the door and kneeled pushing the coat back to open the container a pair of thick gloves on he started to lay the explosive on the floor around the door... what the hell was he doing?
